Derek has always liked to perform since at an early age of 6. He got his first performance playing an Indian Warrior for a school play in Arbroath, Scotland in 1983. Growing up, he was brought up in a hotel enviroment, his parents always had their own business in the catering trade. Arbroath is such a small town and he had alot of freedom going out with his friends and used to go on adventure activities and play alot of sports. Derek got into Martial Arts since his father let him watch a Bruce Lee movie called 'Enter The Dragon'. He was so influenced by Bruce and took up Karate and has encouraged many people to take up Karate to help them defend themselves. In 1992 his parents moved down to Bournemouth in England to run another hotel called 'Sandelheath Hotel'. In 1993 finishing school he went straight into Bournemouth College to learn Business Studies for 4 years. He took up Karate again at The Chase Karate Club with Sensei (teacher) Neil Mann 5th Dan Black Belt. Former army physical instructor and to be known one best of the best instructors in the country. In 1998 Derek got his black belt and continued training he started to try out other types of the Martial Arts Kickboxing, Kung Fu, Kobojitsu, etc. Derek still had the heart in performing arts. He started going to Stagewise Theatre School in 2001 and was involved in 2 productions called An audience with ... and Shake Ripple & Roll. In 2002 he got excepted to go to The University of Bolton in Greater Manchester, to study BA Photography, Video & BSc Multimedia & Website Development. He has had many opportunities to perform and work behind the scenes of a production and has gained fast knowledge of experience. Today after finishing University he worked in China teaching english and did a bit of film working capturing footage for a local Theatre play and is now living in Japan to seek out future projects.
